Adding the Collegiate Perspective to Convention

By SDT Headquarters,

Written by Tara Olson, immediate past Chapter President, Alpha Tau-George Washington University, and a member of the 2017-18 Collegiate Leadership Team. She is majoring in mechanical engineering and volunteers her time at Girls on the Run DC and Higher Achievement.
The Collegiate Leadership Team (CLT) is comprised of dynamic, undergraduate sisters responsible for planning workshops and events for the 2018 National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. They organize late night activities, develop programming for workshops, select keynote speakers, and more. Participation in the CLT allows members to share their leadership experience with others and foster personal and professional growth with fellow sisters. Members are chosen based on campus activities, chapter participation, leadership, diverse interests and experience, special talents and future individual goals.
Below, Tara shares her experience on the Collegiate Leadership Team preparing for Convention.

In late June, Sigma Delta Tau collegians and alumnae will gather together to celebrate our sisterhood and its many traditions at our National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio! National Convention is an exciting time to make new friends, renew bonds of sisterhood, engage in relevant programming and be filled with Sigma Delta Tau spirit. The entire Convention team and members of the Collegiate Leadership Team have been working hard to prepare for the amazing weekend ahead!

From the moment you arrive in Cleveland, prepare to be inspired. From the opening keynote presentation and various other renowned speakers throughout the weekend, to meeting and hearing from various national volunteers, participating in various collegiate workshops, having the opportunity to attend a National General Session, and meeting so many new sisters, the weekend promises to give each attendee so much knowledge and energy for and about Sigma Delta Tau. Within the programming sessions there will be a project to give back to the Cleveland community, a late night t-shirt auction to support our National philanthropies, a trip to Progressive Field to watch a professional baseball game, and a large celebration of the past year at the Awards Banquet!

Ever wondered how the workshops are determined and planned for Convention? Well it’s not as easy as you may think! In November, the Collegiate Leadership Team met at the Convention hotel in Cleveland, along with members of the National Council, to begin planning. These members included Beth Sessler (SDT Foundation President, Past National President), Margaux Manley Lima (National Vice President, Leadership Development & Alumnae), Christina Roman (Convention Chairman and CLT Coordinator), Daryn Foster (CLT Assistant), and Jessica Ryan (Convention Collegiate Programming Chairman). Below is what we worked on for Convention over the weekend:

The workshops are designed to have attendees connect with the collegiate facilitators and get long-lasting tools that they can take back to their chapters.
Clear your calendar, register now and start packing! We can’t wait to see you in June, this is a Convention you don’t want to miss!
