About ΣΔΤ – A Note to Parents

We’re delighted to learn that your daughter is considering membership in Sigma Delta Tau. Since membership in Sigma Delta Tau is a lifetime association, it will not only enhance her undergraduate years on campus, but will also contribute to her happiness as an alumna. Friendships and networking opportunities will extend throughout your daughter’s lifetime!

The purpose of our sorority is diverse and far reaching: to provide an extended family relationship – the home away from home – on campus, to furnish guidance for moral and ethical growth, to stimulate intellectual vitality and academic excellence and to extend opportunities for leadership, community and philanthropic endeavors and social activities.

Sigma Delta Tau offers many diverse opportunities for your daughter to become involved in the chapter and on campus. Our educational programming, beginning with the new member program, covers a variety of topics including: women’s health issues, alcohol awareness, time management, academic skills and social issues. Your daughter is going to benefit and grow as an individual by participating in our sorority programs. Some of the national programs we offer include Elevate (leadership training for officers), National Convention, Alternative Spring/Summer Break, Safe Smart Dating (an award-winning program on sexual assault and healthy relationships) and Life$avings (a financial literacy program). In addition, our women support our national philanthropies – Prevent Child Abuse America (mission is to prevent the abuse and neglect of our nation’s children), Jewish Women International (mission is to ensure that all women and girls thrive in healthy relationships, control their financial futures and realize the full potential of their personal strength) and the SDT Foundation in a variety of ways.

The safety and health of your daughter is of the utmost importance to Sigma Delta Tau. We have an active risk management program, with strict National Policies prohibiting hazing and the use of alcohol and drugs at any Sigma Delta Tau program or in our facilities. Every Sigma Delta Tau chapter is required to sponsor a Risk Management Workshop at the beginning of each semester so that all members are aware of and understand each policy.

We hope you will utilize this website to learn more about our National organization. With the click of your mouse, you can access our National Policies, Philanthropic efforts, National Fees, National Headquarters Staff, and National Board of Directors. Check out the link to “Frequently Asked Questions” for information on grade requirements, scholarship grants and live-in commitments. We know you will also want to shop our SDT Marketplace, where sorority gifts of jewelry and sportswear are available for your daughter!

As a member of Sigma Delta Tau, your daughter would receive our National magazine, the TORCH, for her lifetime. While she is in college, the TORCH will be sent to her home address. Feel free to peruse the magazine and learn about the latest programs and initiatives sponsored by the National Sorority. It is also a chance to find out about the incredible contributions our chapters across the country are making to their colleges and universities.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our National Headquarters (nationaloffice@sigmadeltatau.org) at any time. The members of our National Council look forward to welcoming your daughter as a member of Sigma Delta Tau. We also extend our best wishes to you as a part of our fraternal family.
