Senior Collegian Shines Thanks to SDT Foundation Scholarships

7 Women Standing Together

By: Meghan Gaffney Wells, Director of Communications, with Lexie Korkis (Upsilon – Indiana University)

Each year, the Sigma Delta Tau Foundation awards scholarships to stand-out collegiate and postgraduate members. One such member is rising senior, Lexie Korkis from the Upsilon chapter at Indiana University.

At Convention in June, Korkis was awarded the inaugural Melinda Bordy Grossman scholarship, a recently established endowment funded by the SDT Foundation Treasurer of the same name. Bordy Grossman, an alumna from the Upsilon chapter at Indiana University created the scholarship as a nod to the shared sisterhood of her and her daughters – both SDTs.

Korkis, a two-time scholarship recipient for the Foundation, wrote about the honor of being selected again this year. Her reflection will be posted in full in the Fall edition of The Torch

“Winning the Sister-to-Sister Scholarship in 2023, and the inaugural Melinda Bordy Grossman Scholarship during Convention in 2024 was really amazing. I am so grateful for the opportunity to get these scholarships,” Korkis wrote.

Korkis’ SDT experience has been marked with leadership opportunities from Apparel Chair to Chapter President. She has demonstrated deep commitment to the 180 women in her chapter since joining during her second semester. “SDT came into my life right when I needed it.  I was having a hard time making friends in college. I needed a sense of community, and friendship.”

The experiences, she said, have taught her about professionalism, empathy, and unconditional love. “Being chapter president was truly one of the best decisions I made for myself during my collegiate career.”

For Korkis, the scholarships are a validation of her growth with Sigma Delta Tau. “I’m so grateful to have SDT support me in my academics, recognize my hard work in my chapter, and reward me for the challenges I’ve overcome.” She encourages every collegiate member to familiarize themselves with the Foundation’s annual scholarship opportunities and apply.

“Thank you so much to the Foundation for giving me the chance to create these experiences that I will remember for a lifetime.”
