What are SDT’s academic requirements?
Members of Sigma Delta Tau hold themselves to a high academic standard. New members must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be enrolled as a full-time student to meet the criteria for initiation. Each chapter has an Academic Development officer who provides sisters with support and resources to promote their academic success.
How much does it cost to join SDT?
New and initiated members are responsible for paying dues and fees to the National Organization and their local chapter each semester. National dues and fees support the operations, programming and activities provided by our National organization. Each chapter maintains its own budget and sets its own local dues and fees, which vary by differences in location, housing, meals, dues and collegiate events and programming. View an explanation of Sigma Delta Tau National/Local financial costs here.
We understand paying for college is a huge expense. That’s why the Sigma Delta Tau Foundation offers scholarships and grants to a limited number of students. The availability and award amounts of scholarships and grants vary by year, depending on the generosity of our donors and the performance of our investments. In addition to scholarship opportunities, many chapters also offer payment plans to assist members in making their financial obligations more manageable.
What are SDT’s policies and membership expectations?
Lifelong membership in Sigma Delta Tau comes with benefits, privileges and responsibilities. Each member of Sigma Delta Tau is responsible for fully understanding and complying with Sigma Delta Tau’s policies and membership expectations. Members who fail to uphold these policies and expectations will be held accountable through Sigma Delta Tau’s internal member accountability procedures. Learn more about specific membership obligations and our Alcohol and Drugs, Hazing, and Membership policies here .
To report a member safety concern or violation of these policies, visit our Report a Violation page or contact the National Office by emailing nationaloffice@sigmadeltatau.org or calling 317-846-7747.
What are SDT’s housing requirements?
For many, a shared living experience is a special component of the sorority experience. Sigma Delta Tau chapters offer a variety of housing experiences, including dorm floors, suites, lodges or chapter facilities owned or rented by Sigma Delta Tau. No matter the housing type, these spaces are supported by local housing corporations and/or the SDT Capital Corporation. Each chapter with a residential housing space is responsible for implementing their own House Rules and live-in requirements; commonly, chapters have a 1-2 year live-in policy to ensure full occupancy.
Does SDT provide scholarships?
The Sigma Delta Tau Foundation awards scholarships annually to assist undergraduate and alumnae sisters with tuition expenses as they pursue their educational goals. Needs-based and merit-based awards are available, as well as 14 scholarships supporting specific Sigma Delta Tau chapters. For more information about eligibility, application procedures and deadlines, visit our SDT Foundation page.
What does SDT’s member experience consist of?
When a woman joins Sigma Delta Tau, she’ll participate in SDT’s New Member Experience – a suite of programs and activities designed to support new members as they are welcomed and socialized into initiated membership. The goal of the New Member Experience is to forge stronger connections between Sisters and deepen the understanding of the history and heritage of Sigma Delta Tau within a meaningful, fun and timely experience. This program was officially launched in Spring 2023.
After initiation, members will participate in weekly chapter meetings, fun social and sisterhood events, philanthropic service, leadership opportunities and so much more. Like most things, members will get out of their Sigma Delta Tau experience what they put into it.
