SDT Works to Bring Awareness to Violence Against Women

By SDT Headquarters,

jwi_violence_against_womenViolence against women is a crisis of epidemic proportions, deeply affecting women in the U.S. and around the world. Violence against women encompasses many forms including domestic violence, sexual assault, and physical, psychological, financial and spiritual abuse. The recent news surrounding Ray and Janay Rice is once again putting the spotlight on this oftentimes silent epidemic and hopefully raising awareness about why we need to move toward standing up for what is right…to not allowing or accepting people or organizations to be bystanders.

Sigma Delta Tau is proudly aligned with Jewish Women International (JWI), an organization elevating the issue of violence against women and championing violence prevention. Through advocacy work on Capitol Hill, philanthropic commitments and healthy relationship programs for young men and women, we are working together to ensure that every woman can be safe in her home and in her relationships.

Girls who are empowered to realize their full potential grow into strong women – women who are far less likely to become victims of relationship abuse. Through our philanthropic partnership with JWI, SDT supports Girls Achieve Grapeness (empowering the next generation to break the cycle of violence against women), Life$avings (teaching young women how to plan for their economic security and help ensure that they have money of their own throughout their lives), Safe Smart Dating (helping young people define and identify dating abuse and sexual assault, as well as build skills to be active bystanders at school and in their communities), and the Mother’s Day Flower Project (sending flowers and beauty supplies to battered women’s shelters).

For more information about these and other programs, please visit www.jwi.org. SDT has a lot more to say during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October when we launch our Girls Achieve Grapeness campaign. We hope we can count on your support!
