The Gamma Epsilon chapter at SUNY Oneonta took a “hands on” approach to prevent hazing within their campus community. Titled “These Hands Don’t Haze,” the Gamma Epsilon sisters created a banner filled with handprints of those promising not to haze or be hazed.
The chapter tabled in their dining hall and encouraged students to pledge to end hazing. To take the pledge, students dipped their hands in purple paint, hand printed the banner, and signed their name and Greek organization, if applicable. The purple paint tied in perfectly with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which we celebrate throughout the month of October. At the end of the week, the banner was hung in their quad for the whole campus to see.
The chapter saw a great turn out from Greek organizations, as well as other Oneonta students. They hope to continue the event annually.
