Four Fun Ways to Celebrate SDT, by Kelly Potts

By SDT Headquarters,

With Founders Day quickly approaching on March 25, we will be celebrating 98 years of sisterhood, legacy, and tradition. On this special day, it is important to spend time with your chapter sisters rejoicing in all that SDT means to us. Try one of these wonderful exercises that will not only bring your chapter closer together, but also help remind all of your sisters why Sigma Delta Tau is so special in all of our hearts.

  1. Find Out Which Founder You Are: After taking the Which Founder Are You Most Like quiz, split into groups based on everyone’s answers. It would be interesting to see which sisters ended up as the Personality plus Coed, the Campus Queen, the Leader, and so on. These groups can then partner up for a fun day of team building exercises and leadership games that’ll strengthen the whole chapters’ bonds and honor our national founders.
  1. Split into S-D-T groups: Hold an event with your chapter sisters in which you split into three groups- Sigma, Delta, and Tau. Each group will have a large piece of paper on which they can write words that they believe represent our sorority, starting with their given letter. For example, some sisters from the Sigma group may say ‘smiles,’ or ‘sisterhood,’ while sisters from Delta might say ‘dedication,’ or ‘delightful.’ Hang up the posters at the end of the event to see just how special each sister finds SDT!
  1. Kelly potts blog FDStrengthen Alumnae Bonds: Each chapter would not be what it is today without the great women that came before us, but it can be difficult to find a time where all the women who have been members of your chapter can come together and get to know each other. Danielle Iannetta, Gamma Xi-Montclair State, says a great way to do so with just the active sisters would be to fill mason jars with fun facts about alumnae with whom you are close, and whom other sisters may not know. Afterwards, pass the jar around having each sister read one fact and have everyone try to guess with which alumna it belongs. Sisters may even find some alumnae with whom they have things in common!
  1. Review the Mission Statement: At a chapter meeting or event, have each member say what part of the mission statement appeals to her the most and why. Whether it is to create lasting friendships or to reach our fullest potential, sisters will learn more about each other and what this organization means to them, all while reviewing the true importance of our mission statement.

How will your chapter be celebrating Founders Day?
