Chapter Leaders Days Are Here, by Tiffani Ziemann

By SDT Headquarters,

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

I have had the honor of working with the Chapter Leaders Days (CLD) program for the past fours and each year, they just get better! CLD is an amazing partnership SDT has with Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity to train our new chapter leaders and give them skills and tools to be successful as they embark in their new roles. Our alumnae volunteers, national board members, Leadership Consultants, and national office staff come together with our SAM counterparts to create a fun and engaging program where our officers can learn about SDT, their positions and each other.

The day long program ranges from the big questions to the small details our chapter leaders face, and helps each officer understand her role as a leader.  We spend the day helping our newly elected officers think about ethical decision-making, risk management issues, and leading a chapter. One of the best parts of the day is when our officers get to spend dedicated time goal-setting and planning their year together. The officers get several tools to help them understand where their chapter is, where they want it to go and how they want to get there.

One of the other wonderful upsides of CLD is the opportunity to work with SAM chapters from campuses in the region. It is a chance to learn more about how fraternities work, build relationships and network with other officers. Throughout the course of the day, our officers will work with their SAM counterparts and get to learn some of the similarities and differences between our organizations.

We are partnering with SAM on four programs: Tampa, Fla., Bethesda, Md., Indianapolis, Ind., and Stamford, Conn. There will be approximately 200 SDT chapter officers present at the programs which are held in January and February.
