Empowered Alumnae: Laurie Brucker, Upsilon-Indiana University

By Sara Puppala,

Five years ago, Laurie Brucker walked away from a high powered, high paying fashion design position in New York City to create a brave new world for herself– a place where she can take her talents and put them to good use creating positive energy for the women. In 2009 LaurieBstyle, LLC was born, an image consultancy company with the motto: “People first, style second”. The human experience is so important to Laurie– how we feel about ourselves, how we see ourselves in the mirror. When you feel great in your own being, when you feel great in your own skin, when you feel great in your own clothes, that IS style. That is the ultimate achievement, throwing “fashion” right out the door and opening up to a world of timeless style, which every woman already has. It’s Laurie’s job to pull that out of them.

Always looking up to Stacy London from TLC’s “What Not to Wear”, Laurie achieved a career goal being recognized by Stacy as a leader in the styling industry in 2011, just two years into building her business. Over the next two years, Laurie was named LA’s go-to Stylist by the Los Angeles Times and LA’s top personal stylist by CBS in 2012 and 2013, respectively. She feels incredibly blessed and couldn’t be more excited to see what 2014 has to bring!

Right now, women are in a revolution– an empowerment revolution. Being on the forefront of that fight makes every challenge as an entrepreneur, every triumph with a client, and every vision Laurie sees for the future even more meaningful. Today, we as women fight to be heard, and Laurie’s goal as an Image Consultant is to give real women the tools to do so starting with our own confidence and unique sense of style. When you believe in yourself, you can make anyone believe! That is the power of style. It is the power of confident self expression– the power of being empowered. Laurie is making that happen one wardrobe at a time.
