Executive Director, Debbie Snyder, Inspired by Malala Yousafzai

By SDT Headquarters,

On Monday, September 4, I had the opportunity to hear Malala Yousafzai speak at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. She is the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner and what an amazing young woman she is!  Advocating for girls’ education since she was 11 years old, this remarkable individual from Pakistan is wise beyond her years.

At the age of 15, she was shot in the head by the Taliban, but this experience did not deter her from advocating on behalf of her cause.  Malala’s goal is for children all over the world to have the right to an education.  Her perseverance and dedication to her cause is remarkable.  She has traveled the world on her #GirlPowerTrip to meet girls and fight for their futures.

Malala will be starting college at Oxford University very soon and is a true example of an empowered woman.  I was fortunate to share this experience with my husband, daughter and son and know that this was an experience we will not soon forget.
