Alumnae Newsletter – May 2015

By SDT Headquarters,

Dear SDT Sister,

Spring is always a very active time for Sigma Delta Tau, and this year has been significantly more so with the installation of two new chapters! Stevens Institute of Technology was officially chartered as the Delta Nu Chapter on April 25, and Rowan University celebrated their chartering as the Delta Xi Chapter on May 2. We now have 64 active chapters across the country and we’re continuing to seek extension opportunities.

Over the next few weeks, our alumnae ranks will be growing with the addition of nearly 2,000 graduating seniors. I am excited to welcome these women into the next chapter of their Sigma Delta Tau experience. As you know, sisterhood is something we treasure for a lifetime, and there are many ways to continue sorority involvement, including volunteering, joining an alumnae association, and financially supporting our foundation or alumnae programs, or simply staying in touch through social media.

Pinwheels for Prevention

April was National Child Abuse Prevention month and it kicked off with Big Pinwheel Gardens in Chicago and New York.

SDT collegians and alumnae gathered in Times Square for the Big Pinwheel Garden.

Our chapters led the way in bringing awareness to this important issue. I loved seeing all the beautiful pinwheel gardens across the country in the SDT Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds. Many of our chapters also held events to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse America. We are proud of this National Philanthropic partnership which has been thriving for more than 30 years. While we highlight many activities in April, our chapters are doing amazing things to support Prevent Child Abuse America all year long.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Five years ago, I started a new Mother’s Day tradition with my family by participating in the JWI Mother’s Day Flower Project. The Mother’s Day Flower Project provides women and children living in domestic violence shelters bouquets of flowers and baskets of OPI products. For each donation, JWI will send a beautiful Mother’s Day card to any woman you choose, letting her know she’s inspired a gift that’s helping women in need. All of the mothers in my immediate and extended family eagerly await their annual Mother’s Day card because they know that a woman in a shelter is having a special Mother’s Day. I encourage you to join me and make a donation in honor of the women who inspire you.

Order cards at http://www.jwi.org/fp & help JWI send flowers to women in shelters.
