Alumnae Newsletter – August 2015

By SDT Headquarters,

Dear SDT Sister,

The signs are everywhere-from storefronts to TV advertisements-it’s Back to School time. Last night, as I tend to do every August around this time, I pulled out my old photo albums from my years at Penn State and reminisced about my Phi chapter sisters. I paused over the Recruitment and Bid Day photos thinking back to the day I received my bid to join Sigma Delta Tau.

Sisters from Alpha Tau-George Washington, Class of 1995, gathered for a 25 year reunion. From l to r: Donna Morgan Wernick, Stacey Berman Rose, Stacey Eisenberg Adams, Lisa Berman Asher, Liza DiMedio Elkin, and Jennifer Greenblatt Korczak

I cannot imagine what my college years would have been like without being a part of Sigma Delta Tau. Many of my friends today are the women I met through SDT. More importantly, SDT empowered me to be a leader. Many of the skills I learned at college, I still use today as I navigate through my career. How has Sigma Delta Tau impacted your life? I would love to hear your stories so I can share in the upcoming alumnae letters.

It is hard to believe that within the next couple of weeks our collegiate chapters will all be back on campus and many will be participating in fall Formal Recruitment. I am beyond excited to see all the wonderful pictures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram of the women who are beginning their lifetime journey with Sigma Delta Tau. I know that these women will also meet lifelong friends and be empowered by all that Sigma Delta Tau has to offer. Speaking of recruitment, we presented a Legacy Recruitment webinar in July. If you’d like to learn more about what our policies are and how recruitment has changed, you can view it here (you will need to register).

2015 don't miss out centennial collageThe women joining SDT this year will also experience a once-in-a-lifetime event. March 25, 2016, marks the 99th anniversary of our founding and the kick-off to our Centennial Celebration. Beth Metzger Gruber, Phi-Penn State, National Centennial Chairman and Past National President, and her committee are hard at work planning our celebration. Her team will be hosting events throughout the country jointly with the SDT Foundation, culminating in a historic weekend in New York City in June 2017. We hope that you will join your sisters and celebrate with us!

Centennial is not the only event that we are working on. The Board of Directors, national and local volunteers and headquarters staff spent this past summer solidifying our plans for the 2015-16 academic year. Just a few of the events that we are looking forward to this year include:

  • Year Two of our Empowering Alumnae Speaker Series kicking off the last week of September
  • Our Third Annual Girls Achieve Grapeness campaign with JWI in October
  • A  Big Pinwheel Garden in Washington, D.C. with Prevent Child Abuse America in October
  • The recolonization of Beta Theta at Long Island University in Spring 2016
  • Leadership School in June in New Jersey which will include the election of the 2016-2018 Board of Directors

As we continue to plan other great events, we will update you so you can join us if we’re in your area. I look forward to hearing from you about how Sigma Delta Tau has impacted your life so we can share among all your sisters.
